Boutique Hotels in Rome: The Real Italy Exposed

Post image for Boutique Hotels in Rome: The Real Italy Exposed

Rome is one of the world’s most magical cities. It is one of the most important historic cities on Earth, and it doesn’t hurt that it is also geographically attractive, the food is unreal, the wine is even better, and the people are arguably among the warmest on the planet. So what’s not nice about Rome? Your experience may not be all it could be if you stay the main road — a good way to get the real flavor of the city and have a real “Roman Holiday” is to stay in one of the many boutique hotels in Rome.

There are many, many choices in boutique hotels in Rome, but unlike other spots on the map, the word “boutique” is not code for “cheap” when in Rome. So you will have to know which boutiques actually offer the kinds of prices you can reasonably budget for — after all, you don’t want your risotto disagreeing with you when you get the tab at checkout time.

So where are these rare beasts, these both cheap and authentic boutique hotels in Rome? Fear not, there is a little menu below, but we have not included a wine list, we’re pretty sure you’ll get that when you arrive.

The San Francesco is gloriously romantic without even trying. It’s a three star (European translation = four stars) and it’s only about $75 per night. You’ll be close to the Capuchin Crypt — but before you check it out, eat your complimentary breakfast first — San Francesco offers a terrace breakfast for two complete with cappuccino (not Starbucks, we’re talking cappuccino in Rome.)

The CineMusic hotel (already sounds fun!) is also a boutique with rates hovering around $100 per night. Right in the heart of the San Giovanni District, this little hotel is perfect for budget travelers with a penchant for style and design — all new decor and all new construction. It gets an 8 out of 10 from those who stayed there and reviewed. Not too shabby.

The Pulitzer in Rome might take the cake. Rates start as low as $105 per night and the amenities are insane: childcare, free wireless internet, multilingual staff, and flat screen televisions in every room (a little different than the 1985 Zenith you got at your last bargain hotel.) This is one of the finest boutique hotels in Rome to be sure. And it sure doesn’t hurt that it’s close to Rome’s center, has its own restaurant, and an amazing breakfast offering for about $15. It even has a garden — so when you’re checking your e-mails you can stay Zen.

If you’re going all the way to Italy, you want to do it right and have the best experience, and that’s exactly what a small hotel in Rome will do for your trip. Be close to the good stuff, out of the way of traffic, and hey, if you spend more time indoors than out, you’ll still have an amazing experience.
